Environmental Impact Assessment (122/2012) study for the protection and improvement of Oroklini’s shoreline (Larnaca) (Tender #: PS/D/304, Department of Public Works) in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens (Completed 2010)

In July of 2009, the Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Communications and Works assigned the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) to provide consulting services related to the protection and improvement of Oroklini’s shoreline (Larnaca district) (# of Tender: PS/D/304). In 2010 the NTUA assigned MER the role of conducting a nearshore marine biological survey to fit the EIA.

MER assessed the ecological status at the proposed area (around 6km of coastline), mapped the seagrass Posidonia oceanica beds and priority habitats with ArcGIS, recorded transects with an underwater camera, photographed and identified macroscopic flora and fauna species, and evaluated the impacts to the marine environment from the construction of breakwaters at the coastal region. The report was submitted to NTUA in 2010 and the EIA (122/2012) was submitted to the Department of Environment in 2012.
