IMG 0070

Late in 2013 MER was awarded this tender to carry out a strategic EIA on behalf of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR). MER has submitted the first draft of the SEIA to the authority 40 days following the signed agreement and presented the study to governmental parties and relevant stakeholders in the first months of 2014.

The objectives of the SEIA were to identify, describe and evaluate the potential impacts imposed to the environment from the National Strategic Plan for Aquaculture. The SEIA included a description of the national aquaculture sector, description of the legislative framework, environmental policy and the country’s aquaculture future goals, identification of impacts and of relevant stakeholders, an assessment of environmental impacts from the proposed actions in the 4 year national aquaculture plan.

The project was co-funded by the European Fisheries Fund and the Republic of Cyprus.
