We are happy to share the launch and a fieldwork update from the DFMR programme Monitoring of native and non-indigenous species in the marine waters of the Republic of Cyprus (2025–ongoing), coordinated by Marine & Environmental Research (MER) Lab Ltd in partnership with AP Marine Environmental Consultancy Ltd.

The programme launched a few months ago and we quickly moved from planning into implementation, including the efficient selection of new sites to support long-term monitoring around Cyprus. In this phase, four new coastal areas (east, south, west and north Cyprus) are being surveyed to broaden spatial coverage and strengthen the national evidence base.

Update highlights:

• New long-term monitoring sites selected and survey plan implemented.
• First sampling campaign completed across the new survey areas.
• Second sampling campaign now underway, continuing to build consistent datasets supporting MSFD-aligned assessments.

This work continues MER Lab’s MSFD-related monitoring support for DFMR and builds on two previous programmes:
Tender 35/2020 (completed 2023) and Tender 26/2016 (2016–2018).
