Duration of Internship: September 2025 – November 2025
Qualifications
BSc Marine Biology, University of Plymouth (2023-2027)

Jaz completed a 3-month internship at MERLab, contributing to several marine monitoring and restoration projects in Cyprus. She assisted with MER’s Marine Litter and Microplastics Programme through beach surveys, sediment sampling, scientific dives and lab-based microplastic analysis. She also took part in Posidonia oceanica restoration under the RESPOSCY and A-AAGORA projects, supporting transplant dives and site documentation. Additional work included sponge relocation for the IASUS project, ROV benthic surveys in Geroskipou, and fieldwork with the CLIMAREST project, including photo-quadrat surveys and invasive sea urchin removal.
Throughout the internship, Jaz developed strong skills in scientific diving, ecological monitoring, and applied conservation research. Some of Jaz’s highlights were attending the CLIMAREST & A-AAGORA consortium, lots of scientific diving, and getting to know the team.
“My time at MER Lab gave me the chance to work on diverse, hands-on projects, from marine litter surveys and microplastic analysis to Posidonia restoration and ROV surveys. Each experience helped me grow as a field scientist and strengthened my passion for practical marine conservation. I’m really grateful to the team for the guidance, trust and opportunities throughout my internship. Hope to see you all again soon!” – Jaz.
