CLIMAREST consortium meeting
December 3, 2024Last week, on the 25th-26th of October, our team attended the kick-off meeting of the Life-Prometheus (PROMoting Elasmobranch conservation THrough by-catch reduction, Ecotourism and alternative sUStainable fisheries) was conducted in Thessaloniki, Greece at iSea’s head offices.
Life-Prometheus aims to (a) Reduce by-catch of endangered elasmobranchs using electro-magnetic deterrents and alternative fishing gear, (b) promote sustainable fisheries targeting Invasive Alien Species (IAS) of elasmobranchs and (c) promote sustainable diving tourism for elasmobranch conservation and protection of aggregation areas.
The project involves 18 different partners spanning across the Mediterranean basin involving Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Cyprus. Our team will be co-leading the activities related to the use of alternative sustainable practices towards elasmobranch conservation, mainly focusing on the usage of Invasive Alien Species. In parallel, we will be participating in many activities related to the reduction of elasmobranch by-catch, including the use of electro-magnetic deterrents.
We are very excited to be part of this consortium. Click here to learn more about our project and make sure to keep an eye on our social media for future developments!
